DNA PCR Lab - 142 MRL

The Wong Group’s Directed Molecular Evolution Laboratory is a fully equipped DNA manipulation laboratory designed specifically for the directed molecular evolution of catalytic DNA. This lab houses a wide variety of equipment routinely used in the manipulation, purification, and amplification of DNA including:

MJ Research PTC-200 Peltier Thermal Cycler equipped with a
dual 60-well block. Each well is independently controllable and
holds up to 30 x 0.5 ml PCR tubes. The PTC-200 features a thermal range of -5°C to 105°C and a thermal ramping speed of 3°C/sec. The PTC-200 is used for the PCR amplification of DNA oligomers as well as the precise incubation of DNA selection reactions.

Centrifuge

Eppendorf 5415R Refrigerated Centrifuge. The 5415R holds up to 24 x 1.5 ml microcentrifuge tubes and features a thermal range of 0°C to 40°C and a maximum speed of 13,200 rpm. The 5415R is used during both the PAGE purification and the ethanol precipitation of DNA oligomers.

Owl Separation Systems ADJ1 Giraffe Adjustable Electrophoresis System. The ADJ1 can accommodate gels as small as 14 cm x 16 cm and as large at 40 cm x 16 cm. The ADJ1 is used for the PAGE purification of DNA oligomers.

The lab also includes a dedicated radioisotope work station for the handling of P-32 labeled DNA.
